With over 10 years of experience in vinyl wrapping, we have fully wrapped hundreds of cars and performed thousands of chrome deletes.
A chrome delete is a term used to describe getting rid of the chrome and silver parts on a car, usually by blacking them out. Depending on the auto manufacturer, there may be only a few trims or emblems that come in a chrome or silver color.
Some companies have a ton of chrome all over the vehicle including the grilles, fog trims, mirror caps, door handles, window trim, roof rails, etc. When blacking them out, the different parts would need to either get vinyl wrapped, painted or powder coated depending on what material they are made out of. Parts that have rubber attachments or can not be removed from the vehicle can be vinyl wrapped with film to black them out or another color. Also, if certain parts need to be preserved in their original finish for a lease return or car sale, vinyl film is the best option so it can be removed in the future and returned to OEM condition.
Paint protection film is a clear material, much thicker than vinyl wrap, used to protect the vehicle’s original paint. It comes in a glossy clear, or a matte finish. The matte film was designed to be used on a matte factory paint job but it can also be used on regular glossy paint and make it matte while offering the same protection. The film is also great for protecting headlights, carbon fiber parts, and other areas which are prone to rock chips and scuffs. In the past, people would call the film clear bra which was a name used by 3M, but currently we prefer to use Suntek and Xpel films for our applications.
