For metal surfaces such as wheels, exhaust tips, side steps, and suspension components the best method is to powder coat them. Powder coating works by sandblasting or chemically stripping the metal, and using an electric charge to stick the powder to the surface, rather than any kind of adhesive. After which the metal is baked in an oven at a high temperature to cure the final product. Powder coat is a tougher finish than paint, but unfortunately cannot be used on most plastic parts.
